Commercial Insurance (CI) is currently searching for a General Adjuster in its Large Loss Property Group. The General Adjuster investigates commercial property claims ($150,000 and above), evaluates damages, determines coverage, sets accurate loss cost estimates, controls the insured''s exposures and losses, manages consultants, and achieves a prompt, fair and equitable settlement according to fair claims handling requirements. Additionally, you will negotiate settlement of claims of varying complexity with little direction and more complex claims under the general direction of a Supervising Adjuster or Claims Manager.
Responsibilities:
In this General Adjuster role you will:
Conduct a prompt, thorough and fair investigation by obtaining relevant facts to determine coverage, origin, and extent of loss. Review and utilize financial statements to adjust complex business interruption losses with minimal supervision.
Engage and manage consultants as required to assist in determining facts, causation, damages and exposure; and monitor the costs to ensure they are reasonable and necessary.
Establish and maintain accurate loss cost estimates for each claim for reporting, financial records, and other purposes.
Keep the Insured and others informed about the claims status with clear, timely and accurate written/oral communications. Effectively communicate in writing on moderately complex coverage issues with minimal review and coaching.
Affirm or deny coverage of the claim based on the facts and the policy terms and conditions. Develop information necessary to make advance, partial and final payments when appropriate. Achieve a prompt, fair and equitable settlement of a claim, where there is policy liability.
Meet time requirements of the policy and fair claims handling practices.
Effectively negotiate settlement of claims of varying complexity with little direction and more complex claims under the general direction of the Claims Manager or Supervising Adjuster. y.
Keep the electronic claim file properly documented with accurate, clear and timely information and reports that reflect the adjustment activities and substantiates any payments made.
Provide guidance to less experienced team members.
Qualifications:
Bachelor''s degree or equivalent and at least 5-7 years of Property Claims experience required.
Knowledge of property insurance, Commercial Property claims preferred.
Prior field experience, with knowledge of estimating software (Xactimate preferred).
Experience with coverage evaluation, claims investigation, loss assessment, evaluation and reserves, financial analyses, insurance regulations, negotiation and settlement.
Other skills required include a focus on customers; decision making ability; must be results oriented; strong oral communication skills; adaptable; able to build relationships; a careful listener (i.e., comprehend nuances and acknowledge others'' viewpoints); able to write clear and concise business correspondence; produce accurate work; manage projects and vendors; and use core applications/spreadsheets as normally acquired through a successful completion of required internal training programs and AIC (Associate in Claims) modules 33 and 35.
Ability and willingness to travel to the site of a catastrophe for assignments that may last several weeks
